When it comes to efficiency in the towing industry, small changes can equal big results.

The towing industry is known for being efficient, probably because we all started with very little, without venture capital or rich uncles. We built our businesses from our boots up and made them the companies they are today.

But now competition is fierce, tow prices are lower than ever and inflation is at a 30-year high. So now more than ever, small improvements can make massive differences.

Efficiency isn’t just about being fast—it’s about being smart. The ability to swiftly adapt and respond can significantly differentiate your business in a crowded market.

The Power Of Incremental Change

You might be thinking, “What’s the big deal about shaving off a few seconds here and there?” But in the towing industry, those few seconds add up. A faster response time can mean securing a contract over a competitor. A quicker hook-up can mean fitting in an extra tow per day. And an efficient dispatch system can lead to smoother operations and happier customers. Even the speed in which we answer the phone can make a long-term difference to the success of our towing operations.

Each incremental change might seem minor on its own, but when combined, they can lead to significant gains in productivity and profitability.

In the book Atomic Habits the author said, “Improving by 1% isn’t particularly notable– sometimes it isn’t even noticeable– but it can be far more meaningful, especially in the long run. The difference a tiny improvement can make over time is astounding. Here’s how the math works out: if you can get 1% better each day for one year, you’ll end up 37 times better by the time you’re done. Conversely, if you get 1% worse each day for one year, you’ll decline nearly down to zero. What starts as a small win or minor setback accumulates into something much more.”
